I arrived in Iraq on Saturday night. This has been a moment four and a half months in the making. I left behind some very good friends in Florida but the good news is most of them will be over here with me soon. This next year can veer into two radically different directions. I had previously assumed that this would simply be a year of my life I could write off, but that simply isn't true.
I can use this upcoming year to further my profession, get in even better shape, read and write more than ever. I have an iPad full of books that aren't going to read themselves, and as I complete them I will surely be recommending the good reads and quietly shelving the not-so-good ones. I'm presently reading "The Road Less Traveled" by M. Scott Peck, which has in many ways been a therapeutical revelation to over 23 million people. I'm only three chapters in, but it is a book I would vehemently recommend in confidence.
I will apologize in advance that I can't give particular details of my time in Iraq. This is simply for my security. I will spend most of my time documenting compelling thoughts I have or information I assimilate from the books I read. As always, I will seek a way to make it meaningful and relevant to our everyday lives, and hopefully something positive can be drawn from these blogs again. All I have ever wanted in writing these posts is to give a fresh new thought and vantage point that you can employ to make your day or even your life better. If I am happy in the desert, perhaps you can find a way to be happy not in the desert (if you are sad).
Until next writing, have a good day!
